Smile Makeovers
A smile makeover is a fantastic way to improve the appearance of your teeth and enhance your smile.
A makeover can involve anything from simply changing unsightly metal or discoloured fillings for perfectly matched tooth coloured restorations, reshaping teeth using re-contouring and composite bonding techniques, to tooth whitening treatments and porcelain veneers to help you achieve the beautiful smile you have always dreamed of.
Your journey to your new smile begins with a chat. We will sit down and discuss with you at length exactly what concerns you have about your smile and dental health. Once we fully understand your needs we will start discuss the solutions that we can provide. In other words we will develop a bespoke treatment plan based on your needs. We discuss all the options that are available to allow you to then make an informed choice of how to proceed.

White Fillings
Metal fillings on back teeth can be replaced with tooth coloured composite resin fillings or inlays made of composite resin or porcelain. Modern bonding techniques and materials mean that fillings can be matched exactly to your natural teeth and are strong and hard-wearing.

Hygiene & Prevention
Regular visits to an oral hygienist are an excellent way to help maintain good foundations for your teeth, in order to keep them for life. At your hygiene appointments, our aim is to remove any build up of plaque and tartar above and below the gum line so that the growth of harmful bacteria that lead to gum disease can be eliminated. Tartar cannot be removed by brushing alone.
Oral hygienists work from a tailor made prescription from the dentist. To maintain a good standard of oral health between visits to your oral hygienist it is very important to follow the prevention and maintenance program developed specifically for you to stop or reverse the gum disease. Oral hygienists also carry out a soft tissue, oral cancer screening to detect any abnormalities.
The frequency of attendance for hygiene treatment, is determined by your dentist in close consultation with your oral hygienist and is based on your personal oral health assessment. In general the better care you take in cleaning your teeth and gums the less often you will need to visit the oral hygienist, but typically most people benefit from having this treatment every six months. Those who require a little extra assistance with maintaining their gum health come more frequently.
A very important part of your treatment will be the advice that your hygienist will give you about the best way to maintain your teeth and gums at home. In this way you will be able to make your mouth healthier and feel fresher on a daily basis.

Veneers
It’s no secret that film stars and celebrities keenly seek this form of treatment to create their perfect smile. You may say it’s a professional requirement. This is considered to be the state–of–the–art cosmetic treatment and is now widely available. Unlike caps and crowns, veneers only cover the front surface of a tooth. They are individually handcrafted from porcelain by a highly skilled experienced technician. They are used to correct many defects such as closing gaps, realigning crowded and protruding teeth, and whitening discoloured teeth.
Porcelain veneers are very strong and, if looked after well, last up to fifteen years, providing a lasting smile. They look very natural so people will not know you’ve had the treatment unless you tell them.

Periodontal
What is Gum Disease?
Periodontal disease affects the gums and bone supporting your teeth. It is caused by sticky plaque and hard deposits of tartar. It usually happens when the teeth and gums are not kept clean enough. If you have very bad gum disease, you may have inherited it, or you may have a problem with your general health which needs to be investigated.
Thorough brushing can remove sticky plaque. Scaling and polishing can remove hard tartar. Without regular cleaning, the gum will come away from the tooth, making pockets around the teeth where food and plaque can collect. Pockets are more difficult to keep clean so gum disease will usually get worse if nothing is done.
Smoking is a very significant cause of gum disease and can often lead to widespread destruction of the gum tissues.
Gum disease has two stages:
It starts with inflammation — redness and swelling. Dentists call this gingivitis. It can be cured with good oral hygiene.
The next stage is called chronic periodontitis. Some of the bone that supports the teeth is lost and the teeth become loose until they eventually have to be taken out. Periodontitis cannot be reversed once it starts but it can be well controlled if you clean your teeth properly and have regular treatments from your dentist or oral hygienist.
With support from your oral hygienist and dentist and a robust cleaning regime your periodontal issues can be addressed, controlled and ultimately resolved.

Sedation
Sedation is used to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for nervous people receiving dental treatment. It may be the answer if you are reluctant to change the appearance of your smile because you are afraid or anxious about undergoing long or complicated dental procedures while totally awake. Sedation dentistry can make you feel comfortable with little memory of the treatment, helping you achieve a smile you can be proud of.
According to the Dental Organisation for Conscious Sedation (DOCS Education) 30% of the population avoids the dentists due to fear. This “dental phobia” prevents people receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health of their mouth and smile.
